Children's Home Society of West Virginia
The Children’s Home Society of West Virginia has provided pivotal services to West Virginia’s most vulnerable children and families since 1896.
Every year, we offer child welfare, behavioral health, social casework, and advocacy services, including foster care and adoption, to 16,000+ children and families from 13 primary locations statewide. Our aim is to help build a future where, ultimately, our services are no longer needed: where every child has a safe and permanent home, a family to love them, and opportunities to thrive.
By collaborating closely with other organizations and institutions across the state, we’re working to ensure that every child in West Virginia grows up in a reliable and nurturing family and that all families are equipped with the tools and support they need to see their children succeed

Requirements to become a foster parent
When you want to apply to become a foster parent, your first step should be contacting the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources or a private foster agency. An advocate will reach out to you and answer any questions you have. Your foster agency is one of your best sources of support.
West Virginia HealthCheck is an Early Periodic Screening Diagnosis and Treatment program available to kids in foster care. Through the program, foster children receive a variety of care options, including appointments for primary health and preventative services. Kids also receive dental screenings, immunizations, behavioral and developmental assessments, etc.
Foster parents may receive a subsidy for each foster child in their care as well as clothing allowances and vouchers. Talk to your foster agency to learn more about monthly foster care payments, as these vary depending on the age and needs of the child.
Check your region for foster parent support groups as well. These groups provide excellent opportunities to meet other foster families and receive help.

Some people have a good experience with them and we did for a few years. That's why I gave them the 2nd star. We were with them for five years, always told me I was a good foster mom, asked me to take even more kids (I had 5). Then one day one of my teens snuck out. I followed protocol in reporting it to chs. And they took away all my foster kids and shut our home down. Because a teen acted like a teen, we can't foster anymore.
