St. Peter-St. Joseph Children’s Home, affectionately referred to as St. PJ’s, is a social service agency operating under the Archdiocese of San Antonio, Inc. as an independent 501(c)3 non-profit. The mission of St. PJ’s is to be a safe and loving refuge for children in crisis and to accompany them on their journey to healing and wholeness, breaking the cycle of abuse and neglect one child at a time.

With over 130 years of caring for children, St. PJ’s has a unique understanding of providing a safe, nurturing environment for children in crisis and the value of keeping families together following trauma. The moment a child walks through our door, we engage in breaking the cycle of abuse and neglect. Our goal is to provide each child with specialized treatment to assist them through their journey of healing.

Requirements to become a foster parent

Adults who are new to the fostering process sometimes feel overwhelmed and wonder if they will have support on their journey. Your child-placing agency is the first resource. Social services caseworkers provide aspiring foster parents with various types of support and connections. These include free educational training programs, helplines, and support groups.

It is important that foster parents build their individual support network, too. Connecting with other foster families with more experience is an excellent place to begin. Texas groups offer foster parent meetups; you can search online for the closest one.

The Texas Foster Family Association provides state training, a regional directory of support services, a summer training conference, and more. Membership benefits include getting access to foster care professionals and learning more about ways to become better caregivers. Children of TFFA members can also get assistance through the Scholarship Fund.

Austin Angels is another support organization that strives to assist foster parents and Texas foster children. They offer care packages and gifts for foster children and their caregivers, mentorship options, and education, among other resources. Foster children and teens can learn valuable skills that help prepare them for independent living, as well.

TemperaturePro San Antonio is so honored to serve a facility like Saint PJ’s and Seton Home. They take great care of challenged, underprivileged abused and neglected children.

If you are looking for a job And Marvin is still in charge don’t do it!!! My husband dedicated 3 years to this place turned it around and was depended on so much! Received calls at all hours of the day and night and never complained. We finally had a family vacation planned so my husband put in his time off request over a month in advance. Marvin made jokes about “that’s a lot of time can you cut it down” it was 7 freakin days! But as I said it was jokes it was never a serious conversation or a straight up denial. So 30 minutes before my husband is set to walk out of the door to start his vacation time Marvin says he needs him to stay through the weekend. He needs my husband there because “they had been planning a funeral for 3 weeks”! I don’t know how many times Marvin told my husband over the course of them working together ( which wasn’t very long) that my husband needs to make sure to answer his phone on the weekends because he was “going to the coast and will be out of pocket” or going to Houston or wherever else he would venture while my husband was left to pick up his slack! Employees would still call my husband on his day off even while Marvin was on campus because Marvin wouldn’t be found or wouldn’t do anything about situations! Needless to say my husband refused to stay as we had already paid our non refundable hotel as well as other deposits for adventures that we planned on doing which of course they weren’t going to compensate him for. It’s just absolutely ridiculous that Marvin who is supposed to be on call 24/7 can take off whenever he wants (every weekend) but my husband who rarely calls out (I’ve tried to make him several times lol), never takes vacation barley uses any pto can’t even get his prerequested vacation days off. And isn’t even notified until the last 30 minutes before his shift ends. Like I said if Marvin is still there when you apply RUN!
