Every child deserves a champion.

Our treatment foster care program exists to make sure children are safe and provided with a nurturing environment until they can return home or become adopted. Children range in age from babies to young adults who may have children. They have had difficult experiences in their life, and removal from their home can be traumatic. Our treatment parents provide the love, care, skills, and supervision to help them overcome these difficult experiences. As a treatment parent, you will help children connect with family and friends and encourage their participation in community and recreational activities.

At Pressley Ridge, we provide our treatment parents with advanced training and support. Our treatment parents are key team members and work directly with children on changing behaviors and building new skills. This is why our parents are called “treatment parents.”

Requirements to become a foster parent

You must meet minimum requirements to provide foster care in Pennsylvania. Foster parents for children in need must:

  • Be a minimum of 21 years old
  • Pass a criminal background check with fingerprinting
  • Have time and energy to devote to fostering
  • Live in a safe and healthy environment
  • Prove good health through a medical examination/physical
  • Maintain financial stability
  • Clear all home safety requirements
  • Complete required pre-service training hours
  • Finish the Home Inspection

After fulfilling all requirements during the approval process, licensed foster parents can welcome a foster child into their home. To maintain a valid license, foster parents must also participate in ongoing training each year.

All adults who are living in homes with foster children in Pennsylvania must pass a required criminal background check and fingerprinting. This includes adult children who are family members living at home.

There are other, more detailed requirements for foster homes, such as having a flushing toilet and an operable phone. Prospective foster parents will learn more details during foster parent orientation.

Once you've decided to foster, you can contact a public or private foster agency or the Pennsylvania State Resource Family Association. Foster agencies screen and train prospective foster families and ensure applicants are good candidates for foster care.

I would give this agency a 0 if I could! DO NOT work with them if you want prompt, knowledgeable service to assist with your international adoption. Instead of helping and guiding us through adoption, Pressley Ridge has cost us months of delays!!!
I have reached out to the agency supervisor back in July explaining our situation and particular needs. He ensured me Pressley Ridge can expedite the Home Study completion, which turned out to be a lie. We provided all required documents by August 14th, plus additional requested paperwork by September 1st. The Home Study was not completed until November 5th and that’s after constant back and forth with the agency pushing them to actually do the work they promised to “expedite”. In the middle of this, the supervisor was not answering the phone and not returning phone calls, then suddenly sent an email about him leaving the position and our case being handed over to someone else. How professional is that?!
We thought we would not need this agency’s services anymore but USCIS immigration did not approve the Home Study done by Pressley Ridge (they have insured us they have worked with the country we are adopting from before) and we lost 4 more weeks for the Home Study to be updated to get the approval. Because of all the delays due to Pressley Ridge’s lack of knowledge and professionalism, our FBI Clearances, medical forms, and employment letters all had to be redone(they expire every 6 months for international adoption). All of those forms were previously notarized at Pressley Ridge (service they advertise as part of the Home Study package) but when we came back to redo them, the notary refused to provide the service. We have Pressley Ridge’s notary signature and stamp on all of those documents from the fall and now they are suddenly not comfortable with notarizing them?!
Please do yourself a favor and find an agency that knows what they are doing! Meet and interview their supervisor, social workers, and staff to make sure they are willing to help you and guide you along the way. We DO NOT recommend Pressley Ridge to anyone who is planning to adopt, especially internationally. We will not be using this agency for post-adoption placement reports even if we have to pay extra somewhere else!!!!!

We have worked with the staff here for over a decade and they have always been very helpful, knowledgeable, professional, supportive and understanding. We would not have been able to navigate the foster to adoption process with out their counsel, guidance and training and would recommend this agency to anyone considering foster care or adoption.
