The Village Network is a multi-discipline behavioral health nonprofit organization helping youth & families become resilient & healthy & have brighter futures.Home is where love resides, where memories are created and friends always belong. Unfortunately, the foster children at The Village Network emerge from a house full of violence and anger, with empty pantries and broken promises.

Foster care is a temporary living arrangement for abused, neglected, and dependent children who need a safe place to live when their parents or relatives cannot take care of them. They are just like any other child you know— loving, playful, and full of potential, but they have suffered trauma through no fault of their own.
The Village Network provides family-based Treatment Foster Care for children and youth who have been removed from their homes due to childhood trauma or other unsafe conditions and require more than the basic care, support, love, and nurturing that regular, or “traditional” foster care placements provide. We train, support, and supervise caring foster parents to provide treatment aimed at healing, teaching new coping skills, and helping each child find peace and happiness.

Requirements to become a foster parent

After deciding to foster, make sure your household members are on board with what will be a life-changing decision to foster. Then, educate yourself about Ohio's requirements for foster parents. Applicants who want to foster or adopt in Ohio must:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Live in a safe and stable home
  • Meet home safety requirements
  • Clear a background check with fingerprinting
  • Provide at least three character references
  • Provide ample space for a foster child in their house or apartment
  • Attend foster parent orientation
  • Take part in required hours of foster parent training
  • Maintain financially stability
  • Prove good health
  • Complete the Home Study process

To apply or ensure you meet the prerequisites, there are two primary Ohio state resources. Contact the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) or a local Public Children's Service Agency (PCSAs).

If you are ready to learn more, contact a local child-placing agency to schedule foster parent information orientation. At orientation, aspiring foster parents learn more about foster parenting responsibilities, navigating the foster system, and the foster application process. If you have questions, orientation is an excellent opportunity to ask questions and meet other potential foster families.

Administrative paperwork can take some time to complete, but having everything prepared will ensure it goes smoothly. It will help the process move along if you gather financial documents ahead of time. These include tax filings and paystubs, which you will need to show as proof of financial stability.

Foster parents in Ohio must also attend 24 hours of pre-service foster parent training. This training teaches foster families about the trauma experienced by all foster children. It also covers how to provide general and specialized care to foster children.

If I could give one star I would. My child was in the therapeutic stabilization program. Absolutely HORRIBLE experience. No one there is qualified to work with patients with mental health issues. I heard staff cussing at kids and yelling at them. The kids had access to contraband. My child was in fights daily. No communication from staff with parents. ABSOLUTLEY ZERO MENTAL HEALTH HELP. My child received a psych exam and its been 30 days since he has left and I cant get a copy of any records. I have left MULTIPLE messages and online inquiries and I have received no calls or correspondence back. I wouldn't send a stray dog here. Absolute disappointment. This is nothing but a scam. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE. YOU WILL REGRET IT.
