Cardinal McCloskey School and Home for Children
Our foster care programs serve children from birth through 21 years of age. Family foster care services help children who need temporary safe placement while the families work to address concerns that brought children into care. Youth are placed in loving and caring foster homes while the CMCS foster care team works to provide comprehensive services to support the family to work towards reunification whenever possible.
Foster parents are fully certified and receive continuous training to provide youth with the support they need to address the challenges they are facing while they are in foster care. The foster care team works with the foster parent, child, and birth parent to help address the initial concerns to support and promote reunification and permanency for youth

Requirements to become a foster parent
Raising foster children is a rewarding and life-changing experience. You can make a real difference in a child's life, helping them on a path toward success.
Remember that fostering affects the whole family, so talk to your partner and biological children if you're considering this journey. Learn more about what to expect and ensure it fits your lifestyle. You must be healthy and have enough time and energy to care for a child and meet their needs. This is important for gaining foster parent approval because every child must have this foundation of support.
Each state has requirements for foster parents. In New York, applicants must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Live in a safe and stable environment
- Have enough space for a foster child
- Show financially stability
- Prove that all family members are in good health
- Pass a background check
- Clear a home safety inspection
- Attend required foster parent training
- Complete the Home Study process
- Provide a minimum of three character references
Foster families in New York can rent or own their homes. Adults can become foster parents no matter their marital or divorce status. All adults who are living in the home with foster children must pass the New York required criminal background check. Every adult must complete both state and federal background checks and undergo fingerprinting.
Interested candidates can make the first call to foster services and get the approval and licensing process started. Contact the New York Office of Children and Family Services (NYOCFS) or your local Department of Social Services (DSS). The first step after expressing interest will be to attend a foster orientation. Potential foster parents can learn about the approval process at the event and get questions answered by a foster child advocate.
The foster parent training requirement begins with pre-service training. After getting licensed, foster parents must participate in ongoing training and educational programs.

Worst company ever. Managers don’t do nothing but target new people & don’t ever listen to people concerns. They would be quick to write employees up instead of listening to their side of the story. Once you give someone a certain position they take it and run & care about themselves. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT STAFF !!

"The worst feeling working for Cardinal McCloskey for 5 years, is to have my funds stolen from finance in July/Aug 2018, cheated from Sept/Oct 2018 funds, and to need legal assistance just to get my money back, because no one in finance has any idea what they are doing till this day. Audrey Erazo, Carmen Feliciano are crooks, and have been diverting this payment for almost a year, with no actual explanation as to why they can’t return my money. In addition, they changed the guidelines without telling the employees, which caused me to lose more money as they won’t accept my receipts because I used my bank statement (which was acceptable for 5 years, until one day they changed this without notifying staff). At one point, they owed me up to $1,000 and finally reimbursed me the minimal, and are still holding on to the bigger payments. After approximately 3 meetings in which I was promised my funds to be returned, they now lost my check in the mail. Now I have to complain to the Better Business Bureau, and this is all because I decided to do my job which is to provide activities for clients. While promised this money I never received, imagine expecting a payment from your place of EMPLOYMENT, and not receiving a dime for 5-6 months. My hopes for my reimbursement were just like any person, you know, pay bills, do holiday shopping, celebrate my birthday with a extra $200 per month, which is the approximate amount I SPEND and expect to be returned. Now imagine the months piling up with no reimbursement. 200...400...600... Now imagine 4-5 months of receiving nothing although you keep spending in the name of your job. Then being ignored, given vague answers, and passing of blame for an additional 3-4 months. That’s Cardinal McCloskey."
