Requirements to become a foster parent

There are several support services available for foster parents in Minnesota. Let's take a look at what's available:

Support Payments

Minnesotan foster parents receive a monthly basic payment to help with the care costs of the foster child. Payments vary depending on the child's age and circumstances. They start at $650 per month.

In some circumstances, foster parents can also receive a difficulty of care supplemental monthly rate. These payments help support children with physical and mental difficulties and can be up to $1,500 per month.

Medical and Dental Coverage

In Minnesota, foster children receive Medicaid coverage for their medical and dental needs.

The foster parents are responsible for arranging the child's medical care and must attend all necessary appointments to maintain their health and well-being.

Training and Support Groups

There are plenty of support groups and resources available for foster parents in Minnesota. These services offer ongoing support and an opportunity to share experiences with other people in the same situation as you.

Additional training can also help you be the best caregiver possible for your foster kid.

I’d like to take a second and mention that I was a former Northwoods resident. I spent 3 1/2ish years here between 2016-2019. I spent 2 years in residential treatment on the Huskies team, and 2 years in a group home owned by the company, known as the Columbus house. While I stayed here, I grew more than I can even explain. As a child with PTSD & trauma from neglect, discrimination/bullying, I found nothing but support from the staff and other employees here. The opportunities for personal growth and life long success here were unmatchable. At Northwoods, I had the resources and connections needed to gain confidence in myself and learn valuable life skills and become my OWN person free from persecution. If your child is struggling with behavior/emotional issues, I highly recommend enrolling them here. I am proud to say I that I am a success story due to my experiences here that I wouldn’t have received anywhere else.

This place is a safe haven for children.

Good staff. Nice hidden place that should be more a place for tranquility. But, then again, its just where it should be for the kids who use it. Good safe place with plenty of beauty around it

Northwoods doesn't treat the children with respect, they only see what they can get away with just so they don't get sued. It bet if I got a dime for how many times a Northwoods staff has lied about an incident I'd be a millionaire. Save yourself the time and money, and just raise your child yourself like a normal parent.
