Families Through Adoption
Families Through Adoption is a non-profit 501(c)3, licensed adoption agency dedicated to helping families and children find each other.
Families Through Adoption will foster the formation of families through the adoption process. Families Through Adoption partners with adoptive families throughout the adoption journey: from the conception of the adoption plan through the children’s independence. This partnership extends to all members of the adoption triad as well as other venues dedicated to uniting children and parents.
Families Through Adoption looks forward to assisting families at whatever stage they are in, from the home study process, to support while waiting for their child, to transitioning into the home, to the maturational process from infancy to child independence. We recognize the need for support, education and the need for families to celebrate their uniqueness and to build a legacy. Please allow us to join your family in that process.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Parents can access the Michigan Foster Care Portal (MFCP), which is a tool that helps expedite licensure. The portal can track progress and list the next steps a foster parent needs to take. The MFCP also contains FAQs and helpful guides for parents.
In addition to online tools, foster families also receive some financial support. How much they receive depends on the child's age and needs. Parents may also be entitled to additional reimbursement that covers care costs.
Plus, foster families can access many local and state-wide support organizations and advocacy groups. These groups provide resources, answer questions, and are happy to help form connections between foster parents.
Your foster care agency is always there if you have questions or concerns. Their goal is to ensure the child's well-being and assist parents through the fostering process and beyond.
Another path you might want to consider is co-parenting with the birth parents. The end goal in most foster cases is to reunite a child with their parents or primary caregiver. You'll work with the birth parents anyway to set up visitations, and co-parenting can make your job easier.
Working further with the birth parents can also make the entire fostering process less stressful for a child. They won't feel as if they have to "choose" between homes and families.

Char and Chloe have been phenomenal to work with! We started working with them in March 2020 for the adoption of our son, and even with all the craziness of Covid, they kept the home study process moving along and went above and beyond to get things approved. It was a no brainer to return to them for the adoption of our daughter this past year and again, they were fabulous. They are extremely communicative, knowledgeable, and personable. We had a last minute ‘emergency’ issue and Char fit us in the same day and completed a report for us in record time. They definitely feel like an extension of our family and we’ll be forever grateful for all they did to help grow ours!
