Requirements to become a foster parent
You're never alone when you foster as you work as part of a professional team. Louisiana’s Department of Children and Family Services partners with many organizations to help support foster children and the families that care for them.
The collaborative Foster Caregiver Mentor Program encourages peer relationships between foster families. It's an effective way for new resource parents to meet with more experienced caregivers and get advice.
Your local DCFS also has plenty of resources online, including parent handbooks, contact information, and emergency service information. You can learn more about child welfare agencies and how to become a foster parent.
A child-placing agency is always there for you, providing support in times of crisis or even when you have questions. Don't forget about the case worker, who you can contact if you feel lost.
Working with the birth parents is another part of a foster parent's job. However, you don't have to simply contact them to set up visitations and calls. Co-parenting with them is often best for the child, and it can make your job easier.

We adopted through Decolores in 2013, and they were wonderful! Honest each step of the way and took good care of our birth mom too!

When I had to consider adoption for my baby, I was scared. Not many women are willing to give up their baby for adoption for any reason. I was not able to give my baby girl the home and stability she would need to live the life I wanted for her. I was not ready to be a mother. I found out I was pregnant during Covid and I knew I wasn’t gonna be able to handle it especially since I had recently lost my job and I had 2 other kids. I was struggling 😩😩 I know it was the most selfless and also most difficult decision I’ve ever made but my daughter is thriving. She’s almost 2 now and it’s an open adoption so I get to see her sometimes. The best part was describing the kind of parents and family I wanted for her and Debbie and Sandy who helped me w everything were outstanding!! They made something that felt impossible OK. My heart is w you if you’re expecting a baby that was unplanned. But you can get thru this. Call them today DeColores Adoptions is the best!

I did a adoption in 2013 and these ladies treated me like family. So sweet and caring. And they let me pick the family for my daughter and the family was wonderful.

I did two adoptions and tried doing another.I did all paperwork. They have lack of staff poor communication and don't go by the law they give you financial assistance when they feel like it.They need to get it together. I am homeless and stay in a storage unit also still no paperwork sent to me yet they have my life noted in their hands and still no help. If the agency contacts my doctor's office or anything is sent to them before or after baby is born I'll do another review I have proof this agency isn't who they say they are.
