Christian Acres was established in December 1981 as an alternative to traditional juvenile placement.  The group home is located on approximately twenty acres of well manicured land in Tallulah, Louisiana.  The facility is comprised of seven residential homes.  Six of these homes house 12 youth each and one home houses 10 youth.  The facility has an administration building, control station and gymnasium.  The gymnasium houses seven self-contained classrooms, maintenance, storage, kitchen and dining room.  The facility operates under the corporate auspices of Christian Acres Youth Center, Inc.  It is designed to serve 106 male youth ages 12-17.

Christian Acres respects the resident’s positive potentials and his self-determining role in shaping the course of placement and the pace at which these potentials unfold.  At Christian Acres priority is always given to individual resident needs, and therefore, the program experience of a given resident may vary within the program structure.  The program is designed to be completed in six months however; the typical placement is from eight to twelve months.

Requirements to become a foster parent

You're never alone when you foster as you work as part of a professional team. Louisiana’s Department of Children and Family Services partners with many organizations to help support foster children and the families that care for them.

The collaborative Foster Caregiver Mentor Program encourages peer relationships between foster families. It's an effective way for new resource parents to meet with more experienced caregivers and get advice.

Your local DCFS also has plenty of resources online, including parent handbooks, contact information, and emergency service information. You can learn more about child welfare agencies and how to become a foster parent.

A child-placing agency is always there for you, providing support in times of crisis or even when you have questions. Don't forget about the case worker, who you can contact if you feel lost.

Working with the birth parents is another part of a foster parent's job. However, you don't have to simply contact them to set up visitations and calls. Co-parenting with them is often best for the child, and it can make your job easier.

I was placed at Cristian Acres when I was 12, and it had girls and boys. It was a good experience; we would play volleyball in the gym, and we also had dances in the gym as well.1982 was a long time ago, but I just want to thank especially Bonnie, who worked in the office and would bring me to her house for the holidays.
