Requirements to become a foster parent
Many new parents are worried they'll be on their own if they decide to foster. That's not true; you have tons of support on your side.
You have the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS). Your local DHS recruits and approves families for fostering and adoption. They also place children with approved parents.
The Iowa Foster & Adoptive Parents Association has handbooks, contact phone numbers, information on training and case plans, useful PDFs for foster parents, and more online.
You also have your local child-placing agency for assistance. They're licensed and approved to train parents and place children in homes. You can find information on how to navigate the legal system or tips for working with birth parents, for example.
Many state non-profits dedicate themselves to assisting foster youth and the families caring for them. They may help with basic care, such as clothing or food, or educate parents on specific topics.

I have watched dhs fail my daughters brother time and time again, they hired a cfr to hopefully finally help and get a child out of a bad situation. Well the cfr didn't help and only kept the situation the same as it was. Dhs and the cfrs are only after money and don't actually care about the well being of a child. It's honestly disgusting and sad. Something needs to change! It's disgusting that you can pay these people thousands of dollars for them to accomplish litterally nothing. It's like they don't even care! If 0 stars was an option that's what they would get!

Ladies up at the front are rude though this was a place for children and teenagers to get help.
Nobody had a bathroom so we left dollar general mid k and I was like surly they would be ok. The lady asked me if I saw the sign I told her i didn’t I have half blind. Lost my glasses. So no sign. She was like no public restrooms.
Rudely and I am like really she’s four! I don’t drive so I can’t just hop in a car and go home and she was like I understand that. It’s like really do u! I thought this place was amazing. I was there when elevate started I had therapist there. WHAT A RESTROOM POLICE!

This place is the most ridiculous payee office in town. The payees are rude and very unfriendly. The receptionist is beyond rude. I work with clients in the Des Moines community and take my clients to CFI for their payee services and they get treated like they are less than. Fire them all in the FMS program, rehire, and retrain!

This place has been amazing to me. I'm there for therapy after having to leave my home state because of my abuser and everyone who works there had been great to me, understanding, helping me get through the stress of court dates, helping me in a new relationship so I don't repeat the pattern... Everything. This place is amazing and I'm truly thankful for it.
