Youth Service Bureau of Illinois Valley
Youth Service Bureau of Illinois Valley: A Community Based Not For Profit Child Welfare Agency Established in 1976
Whenever possible, YSB preserves the child’s family. A child should be separated from his or her family only when the family is absent or is unwilling or unable to provide a minimally acceptable family life.
Foster care aims to provide safety, continuity, consistency, and permanency for the growing child in a family setting. When returning home is not possible, alternative permanent plans must be pursued.
Foster Care is a program for children in state custody who cannot remain in their homes. Children in foster care stay with a family who provides safety, nurturing, support, and role models for change. Foster care is meant to be a temporary, short-term solution to an emergency. Foster placement may be for a single day or several weeks and continue for years.

- Attend foster parent orientation
- Pass a background check

Foster families must be able to provide a safe and comfortable home for a child. You must provide room for the child to have a bed and enough space for personal belongings.
Foster parents do not need to be married or have a partner. However, if married, couples must show a stable marriage of at least one year before they can foster a child in Illinois.
Foster parents need to meet a child's basic care needs, such as providing meals and clothing. Foster families must also support a foster child's education and assist them in developing social skills.
Contact the DCFS or a local licensed child-placing agency to learn more or begin the fostering approval process.
