We provide caring services for families and children, including adoption, maternity care, counseling, and voluntary foster care.

Why Choose a Licensed Agency?

There are many ways to connect with an adoptive family for your child: social media, websites, blogs, family or friends, etc. As you choose, consider working with a licensed adoption agency. This article by attorneys explains the difference between a facilitator (most of the online ads) and a licensed agency.

Why CFS is Special?

Christian Family Services is a licensed, not-for-profit child welfare agency established in 1973. That means that we are governed by the laws of Missouri and Illinois to provide a certain standard of care to you. Beyond that, as a Christian agency, our core values motivate us to provide a higher standard of care. We treat others as we want to be treated.

As a Christian agency, our core values motivate us to provide a higher standard of care. We treat others as we want to be treated.

We have separate social workers for pregnant clients and the adoptive family. Your social worker works with and for you only. We do this to make sure that you receive unbiased counsel. It’s not our job to convince you to choose adoption. We will NOT do that. We provide information and support, but it is always your choice.

Services and information

  • Adoption

Requirements to become a foster parent

You must meet minimum requirements to provide foster care for children in Illinois. To become a foster parent, you must:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Attend foster parent orientation
  • Pass a background check
  • Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
  • Complete the Home Study
  • Provide at least three references
  • Clear a physical exam
  • Maintain financial stability

Foster families must be able to provide a safe and comfortable home for a child. You must provide room for the child to have a bed and enough space for personal belongings.

Foster parents do not need to be married or have a partner. However, if married, couples must show a stable marriage of at least one year before they can foster a child in Illinois.

Foster parents need to meet a child's basic care needs, such as providing meals and clothing. Foster families must also support a foster child's education and assist them in developing social skills.

Contact the DCFS or a local licensed child-placing agency to learn more or begin the fostering approval process.

My husband and I highly recommend CFS! After years of trying to get pregnant ourselves, we decided we wanted to do embryo adoption. Embryo adoption allowed us to experience pregnancy and give birth to our two little miracles. Laura, our social worker was extremely supportive and agreed she’d help us navigate this new journey. She helped make this a great experience from start to finish. Thanks to Laura and everyone at CFS for making this a reality for us! Blessings!

We adopted our child from CFS in 2014/2015 and had a wonderful experience! The social workers are so helpful and knowledgeable. They walked us through each step of the process and answered every question that came to our minds. We still keep in touch with all of them and they really start to feel like extended family. I would highly recommend them!

The staff at CFS is very caring, helpful, and encouraging! We know that all staff involved in our adoption case were supportive and looking out for what is best for each child and family (both birth families and adoptive families). We are so happy that we adopted our daughter through CFS! We adopted in 2015 and we still stay in contact with the staff at CFS!
