The Open Door Adoption Agency, Inc.
An Open Door’s Foster Care Adoption program, called the Suitcase Movement, is an innovative partnership between our agency and the State of Georgia. With a resource of thousands of families interested in similar children, we help find families for waiting foster children, with a focus on older children, those with siblings and children with special needs.
God created the family, and we believe everyone thrives in a family unit where they are safe, supported, encouraged, and loved. Everyday sadly there are thousands of children lingering in foster care in the state of Georgia. These are children who have experienced trauma in ways that many cannot imagine. Many of these children just need a stable, loving home to unpack their “suitcase”.

Requirements to become a foster parent
The DHS assists foster families with placement and ensures the child adjusts well to their new environment. Whether you have years of parenting experience or are relatively new to the idea, they have many support options for families. You can find plenty of information on the DHS/DFCS website or call them for more assistance.
Your local licensed child placement agency also places children in the foster system with carefully matched parents. Although foster care is temporary, it's crucial to find the right fit. That's why parents get a say in age range and gender.
There are also many state support groups for foster families that provide educational resources, services, and more. Connecting with these organizations and adding to your personal support network will be invaluable.
One of the best ways to become a better parent, whether you plan on fostering a child short-term or adopting, is to read as much as you can about Georgia's foster system. For instance, recently proposed bills would help to streamline parts of the state's foster care placement system.
You can find plenty of information available online for free as well. Blogs, podcasts, and videos are all incredibly useful ways to obtain new information about fostering.

We have been honored to work with Open Door on 2 adoptions. They are diligent in making sure the families receive not only the services they need but also the follow up support and encouragement the process demands. We live in a small community and have multiple families that have been blessed through open door. Over the 7 years of our journey we have not only used the adoption services initially during placement but they have provided support for multiple follow up visits and facilitated meeting places and support during. The journey is long and the emotional toll endless, but the backing and encouragement we received was essential.

My wife and I recently worked with Olga and Open Door Adoption Agency to adopt three siblings from Ukraine. We had a wonderful experience, and were guided through the process from start to finish with the highest level of professionalism. Olga is highly knowledgeable about the Ukrainian adoption process, and will connect you with the best in-country facilitator team once you reach that step of the journey. This is not always the case, so please consider An Open Door if you are thinking about adopting from Ukraine. Thank you all for your incredible customer service and attention to detail which helped us allowed us to meet and fall in love with our three beautiful children.

Last year around Christmas time i had a situation come up family wise where i had to leave my family’s home and it was either have my kids sent to DFCS or put them up for adoption. I chose adoption and i just so happened to come across this agency and my family found this agency also. I called and got information about putting my twins up for adoption and they were so compassionate and understanding of my situation and sent someone to my family’s home to discuss my options. Ms. Cherrea Williams is a complete Angel in disguise!!! We talked for hours on end and laughed alot. I was so happy to find out it was possible to keep my son and daughter together and let them be adopted together! The process was a bit long but all worth it in the end and the families they let you pick from are all great families but this one particular family really stuck out to me and i just didn’t even want to look at the other families life books it’s just like i had some type of connection with the family i chose!!! Fast forward to this year we have had multiple video chats and contact about my babies thru the agency and even thru the family themselves!!! Not putting their names out there due to a respect thing but i must say the family i chose for my kids are also complete angels in disguise also and treat me like I’m their own blood family!!! I completely love how this agency cares about you and your kid/kids. I would definitely recommend An Open Door to anyone that is contemplating on giving up their beautiful baby or babies up for adoption.
