Our primary foster parents become full-time caretakers to the foster youth placed in their care. As a licensed sibling reunification agency, we focus on foster homes able to take in 2 or more youth. The increased work of caring for multiple foster youth is balanced with higher daily payment rates, low case management turnover, applicable and relevant trainings, foster parent support groups, and partnerships with respite foster parents to provide an occasional break.

While fostering has its challenges, our parents tell us the best part about fostering is seeing the children get to be children. When they are able to laugh, go to summer camp, play and be silly, the children just come alive. In that moment, fostering makes so much sense.

There are approximately 500,000 children in foster care in the US. Many times, like in Georgia, there aren’t enough families who are local to support them. It is important to keep the kids close by and together with their siblings.

Requirements to become a foster parent

The DHS assists foster families with placement and ensures the child adjusts well to their new environment. Whether you have years of parenting experience or are relatively new to the idea, they have many support options for families. You can find plenty of information on the DHS/DFCS website or call them for more assistance.

Your local licensed child placement agency also places children in the foster system with carefully matched parents. Although foster care is temporary, it's crucial to find the right fit. That's why parents get a say in age range and gender.

There are also many state support groups for foster families that provide educational resources, services, and more. Connecting with these organizations and adding to your personal support network will be invaluable.

One of the best ways to become a better parent, whether you plan on fostering a child short-term or adopting, is to read as much as you can about Georgia's foster system. For instance, recently proposed bills would help to streamline parts of the state's foster care placement system.

You can find plenty of information available online for free as well. Blogs, podcasts, and videos are all incredibly useful ways to obtain new information about fostering.

Goshen Valley New Beginnings is a life changing organization. They allow Kids to feel loved and safe in a world that is often makes kids feel hard and neglected. The staff and the tools they provide are truly impeccable. It is refreshing to see a place that truly cares about seeing Children transition jump adulthood.

The staff at Goshen go above and beyond for their kids in the program. It's such a loving and caring environment and Ms.G and Ms.Jenny make it truelly feel like home. They really help mold kids into great young adults.

The staff truly cares, and that’s what most foster children want. They provide various helpful life skills like saving, budgeting, applying for jobs, and many more “real life” skills. Even after care, the staff takes it upon themselves to check up on you and assist however they can.
