Family and Children's Aid, Inc.
Each month, Family & Children's Aid receives about 70 referrals for youth who need foster parents. These children have experienced trauma and need a safe place to stay.
Our foster parents can offer full-time, weekend only, or even one night per week care. Foster families receive 24/7 support to provide children with a patient, consistent, and safe home.
There's no direct charge to become a foster parent. Even just one day saves a child from spending the night in a DCF office. Each child’s situation is unique. Some children need a home for a night or two, while others need a forever home. We work with you to determine the best fit for your situation.
Be the first safe place a child knows. We look forward to talking with you.

Requirements to become a foster parent
You must meet minimum requirements to provide foster care for children in Connecticut. Before you start, educate yourself and reach out to a foster care agency. Social workers recommend that you and other family members in your home feel ready before starting your foster journey. Caring for a foster child takes time, patience, and persistence.
Contact your local licensed child-placing agency or attend an orientation meeting to learn more about what fostering entails. They will inform you about foster parent requirements, common obstacles you might face, and unique challenges among foster children. All foster kids have experienced trauma. Training teaches foster parents how best to help foster children manage their feelings and feel secure.
You must meet minimum state requirements to qualify as a foster care provider in Connecticut. Foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Offer a safe living environment
- Pass a police and FBI background check
- Maintain sufficient income to care for a family
- Complete the 10-week training program
- Provide a separate bed for the foster child
- Complete the Home Study process
- Have a clean driving record (pass a DMV check)
Kids of the same gender in a similar age range may share a bedroom.
Contact the Connecticut Department of Children and Families or a local child-placing agency for additional questions about foster parent requirements.

DO NOT USE THIS PROGRAM!!! After I got out of the mental hospital for suicidal and self destructive tendencies I started this program as aftercare. At first it was going great, until about 1 month and half in when they started working with the whole family. They would always side with my mother when I would try to explain something she was doing wrong, and once even called me manipulative for telling my mother things that she was doing were making me worse. They have done many other things that have barely helped. If you’re child is getting aftercare after a trip to the ER or the mental hospital, I would recommend group therapy (if thats an option) instead of this.

The rtft program is designed to work on any concerns there may be in order for reunification to happen. I went thru a complete 30 day assessment and the worker named Kenia told me there were no concerns throughout the entire 30 day assessment but when we had the meeting with dcf at the end of the 30 days, there were concerns that were not factual and not able to be backed up.

My children see two very wonderful counselor sat FCA and they are incredible! However, if you get involved with Kimberly Lopez, get transferred. She's not a good person. She participates in cyber bullying and slander and completely goes against what FCA stands for. She shouldn't even be employed by the company anymore. She lacks morals and family value badly.
