Connecticut Department of Children and Families
The Department of Children and Families has taken great strides over the last several years to improve how we serve vulnerable children and families in Connecticut. But, we have not done so alone. No one has been more instrumental in that progress than our foster parents.
Beyond question, foster parents have complex roles in caring for children with often complicated lives. What is far less complex is what motivates them to become foster parents. They say it is simple: they love kids, and the children need them.
Parents who adopt children and provide foster care say it's the most fulfilling and important thing they've ever done. As a foster or adoptive parent, you'll have the chance to make a REAL difference -- to do something that will have lasting importance.

Requirements to become a foster parent
You must meet minimum requirements to provide foster care for children in Connecticut. Before you start, educate yourself and reach out to a foster care agency. Social workers recommend that you and other family members in your home feel ready before starting your foster journey. Caring for a foster child takes time, patience, and persistence.
Contact your local licensed child-placing agency or attend an orientation meeting to learn more about what fostering entails. They will inform you about foster parent requirements, common obstacles you might face, and unique challenges among foster children. All foster kids have experienced trauma. Training teaches foster parents how best to help foster children manage their feelings and feel secure.
You must meet minimum state requirements to qualify as a foster care provider in Connecticut. Foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Offer a safe living environment
- Pass a police and FBI background check
- Maintain sufficient income to care for a family
- Complete the 10-week training program
- Provide a separate bed for the foster child
- Complete the Home Study process
- Have a clean driving record (pass a DMV check)
Kids of the same gender in a similar age range may share a bedroom.
Contact the Connecticut Department of Children and Families or a local child-placing agency for additional questions about foster parent requirements.

Over these past 3 years I've been having problems with my daughter and here it is D cf. Department of children and lovely family has not did anything to help me or my daughter my daughter is 15years old now i asked for help I signed so many releaseforms for what just so they can act like they doing a job but not really doing a job they act like they care for the families but they really don't because at the end of the day they just getting paid my recommendation is that DCF need to be shut down . I heard from another state worker since 2008 came a lot of things with the system have changed and that is absolutely right what have changed DCF does not do anything for these kids this is why So many crimes so many deaths is going on as right now And this year it's very well aware but at the end of the day if anything will happen to my daughter I'm blaming the system because remember I asked for help for me and my daughter If it was up to me DCF will never get a star cause they are trash in my Eye

WILL NOT LET MYSELF (BIOLOGICAL GRANDMOTHER)OR HER BIOLOGICAL GRANDFATHER SEE OUR GRANDDAUGHTER!
VERY SCARY AND RUDE PEOPLE!.
MANCHESTER OFFICE IS UNSANITARY!.NOONE CLEANS THE TOYS(OUTDATED ). VERY SCARY 😦. THEY HAVE NO SUPPLIES FOR 3 YEAR OLDS AND DCF WORKERS ARE MORE INTERESTED IN THEIR OWN PHONES THAN ANYTHING ON PERSONAL CALLS!!!
VERY SCARY THAT THESE PEOPLE ARE WORKING WITH CHILDREN AND THEY DRIVE ATROCIOUS WITH CHILDREN IN CAR, SAW IT FIRST HAND.THEY DONT CARE….
JUST SAYING THAT THEY SHOULD DO BACKGROUND AND DRIVING RECORDS AND ALL ELSE BEFORE LETTING THESE PEOPLE BEHIND THE WHEEL OF A CAR.
SOME ARE SUSPENDED,SOME EVEN HAVE THEIR OWN CHILDREN TAKEN AWAY!!!
GO FIGURE THAT ONE OUT?????
MAKES YOU WONDER WHAT THEY ARE EVEN THERE FOR!!!
AND SHOWING PICTURES OF OTHER CHILDREN WHO HAVE BEEN TAKEN AWAY FROM REAL PARENTS AND PLACED WITH FAMILIES WITH BETTER ATMOSPHERE! I KNOW THIS FIRST HAND WAS TOLD AND SHOWN PICTURES OF 2 COUPLES THAT ADOPTED CHILDREN!
ILLEGAL IS NOT EVEN TO DO THIS AND ITS CONFIDENTIAL!!!!!
SO WHAT DO THE BIG WIGS DO ????…ABSOLUTELY NOT A THING!!!!

I remember about 20 years ago. This case worker Anthony Okologi hunged up on me. I was trying to set an appointment to get food assistance. He was rude stating that I should find the kids father to support me and should I get a job. Mind you I had a job but I wasn't full time. I told him he's very unprofessional and he's needs to go back to training or find another career. I guess I hit a nerve that's when he hunged up me. I called his supervisor and told her what happened. She had him on the phone to apologize to me. A social worker at the children hospital in Hartford tap in, on her computer and applied me for food assistance see how God works. I never again called the state building bc of Anthony Okologi he's a horrible human being.
