AGAPE of North Alabama has been meeting the needs of thousands of children and families with active love and compassion since 1969.  AGAPE, Greek for "unconditional love," fulfills its purpose by placing children in loving, Christian homes.  Social workers provide therapeutic services in families' homes to ensure that vulnerable children are on a path toward healing. 

AGAPE specializes in adoption, foster care, birth-parent support, and counseling. AGAPE's foster families are called to minister to parents and children involved with the Alabama Department of Human Resources [DHR]. Our families provide safe, loving homes for children and work in partnership to reunify children with biological parents when possible.

Requirements to become a foster parent

You must meet minimum requirements to provide foster care for children in Alabama. Foster parents for children in need must:

  • Be 19 years of age or older
  • Offer a safe and caring home environment
  • Provide adequate space for the foster child
  • Maintain financial stability
  • Ensure all household members are in good health
  • Meet necessary home requirements
  • Pass a background check
  • Finish the 30-hour training course
  • Complete the Home Study process
