It usually surprises people when they hear it for the first time. We have an orphan problem in America. In our country, the most affluent in the world, we have half a million orphans—children living on the streets, in group homes, and in foster care. South Texas is no exception: every day, several kids in Bexar County alone are removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect.
They are our neighbors. They are a Christian foster care and adoption agency located in San Antonio, TX.

Requirements to become a foster parent

Adults who are new to the fostering process sometimes feel overwhelmed and wonder if they will have support on their journey. Your child-placing agency is the first resource. Social services caseworkers provide aspiring foster parents with various types of support and connections. These include free educational training programs, helplines, and support groups.

It is important that foster parents build their individual support network, too. Connecting with other foster families with more experience is an excellent place to begin. Texas groups offer foster parent meetups; you can search online for the closest one.

The Texas Foster Family Association provides state training, a regional directory of support services, a summer training conference, and more. Membership benefits include getting access to foster care professionals and learning more about ways to become better caregivers. Children of TFFA members can also get assistance through the Scholarship Fund.

Austin Angels is another support organization that strives to assist foster parents and Texas foster children. They offer care packages and gifts for foster children and their caregivers, mentorship options, and education, among other resources. Foster children and teens can learn valuable skills that help prepare them for independent living, as well.

At Children of Fallen Heroes (CFH), we recently had the privilege of partnering with 1 Hope for Kids in San Antonio, Texas for an extraordinary STEM Indoor Skydiving and Robotics program. We were truly inspired by their dedication to fostering a program of hope and encouraging teamwork and education for the children in their care.

The passion and compassion exhibited by the team at 1 Hope for Kids left an indelible mark on our hearts. They go above and beyond to provide a nurturing environment that empowers both kids and caregivers alike. Their commitment to supporting foster programs is truly commendable.

The CFH STEM Indoor Skydiving and Robotics program provided a unique opportunity for the children to explore the realms of science, technology, engineering, and math in an engaging and thrilling way. The smiles on the kids' faces as they discovered new possibilities and overcame challenges were simply priceless.

We are grateful for the chance to collaborate with 1 Hope for Kids and witness the positive impact they have on the lives of the children and caregivers. Their unwavering dedication to instilling hope and fostering a sense of teamwork and education is truly remarkable.

If you're looking for an organization that not only cares deeply for the well-being of foster children but also invests in their future, we wholeheartedly recommend 1 Hope for Kids. Their programs are filled with love, compassion, and opportunities for growth, and we look forward to continued partnerships with them.

I believe that this agency needs some serious reconsideration of their processes and management. While their intentions may be good ones, they utterly fail in their attempt to do what is right for the child(ren).

Their adherence to policy (or what they call policy) causes them to be closed-minded regarding unique situations. Unfortunately, as every foster parent is aware, all children come with a unique set of circumstances, each potentially difficult in its own way. This can cause issues, as unfortunately 1Hope assumes that each child and circumstance will fit into their little policy box, and that somehow all situations can be addressed and fixed with a plug-and-play method like an assembly line.

They find it easier to reassign children to a different foster home rather than answer questions or delve into the children's situation to help them. Unfortunately, as of this time, I cannot recommend 1Hope as a foster agency that really has the child's best interest in mind.

Communication is poor, foster parents are discouraged from asking questions, and it seems really that 1Hope would prefer to avoid extra paperwork than actually help a child in need.
